M-Vocha Food Vouchers

Dignified, accountable food support — digital benefit cards that vulnerable Kenyan households spend on food at trusted local shops.

What it is

Food support that reaches the shop counter

The M-Vocha Food Voucher programme turns donor and government funding into food on the table. Approved households receive a digital benefit card they use at nearby approved shops to buy food — not cash, food only. Every shilling is tracked from the funder to the shop counter, so partners can see exactly where support goes.

  1. 1

    Funding

Partners and government fund the programme; the money is held by an independent trustee, not by M-Vocha.
  2. 2

    Apply

Households are identified with the help of NGOs and local chiefs, and register with their details and documents.
  3. 3

    Fair review

Each application is scored for need and its documents are checked for consistency. A programme officer makes the final decision.
  4. 4

    Benefit card

Approved households receive a card loaded with food credit each period.
  5. 5

    Spend on food

Households buy food at approved local shops. The card works for food only, at vetted merchants.
  6. 6

    Settle & track

Shops are reimbursed through the bank, and every transaction is recorded — giving funders transparent reports on reach and spend.
The six steps: funding, apply, fair review, benefit card, spend on food, settle and track
